Deleting Twitter, Blu-Ray & Birthday Celebration Review

I'm going to blog probably more often b/c I have some many things to get off my chest. One thing, I'm going to delete my Twitter account. I cannot keep up with that anymore since I don't have a Smart Phone. For those who are following me on Twitter right now, sorry. I prefer FB to Twitter now.

Also, I'm contemplating about whether to get a Blu-Ray player or not. I have about 4 standard DVD players at home and one hi-def flat screen TV. Because of the many gift cards I got yesterday b/c of my birthday party (explanation coming up.) Should I get a Playstation 3 or any other kind of Blu-Ray player? I am not a gamer, myself, so I 'm leaning towards the latter. We shall see.......

Onto my birthday celebration yesterday, it was the best birthday ever since my 30th one. I had a great time eating at a salad buffet bar, Sweet Tomatoes! Many family members came, but the most important people that came to my birthday were my high school friend which I haven't seen in 13 years. This was my first high school reunion ever! I'm, glad that she came and brought her family. Also, one of my co-workers came (it was supposed to be two, but one bailed on me the last minute;); she brought her husband. Also, a friend of mine who I haven't seen since I was like 5 years old came with her roommate. I know both of them through Facebook. They update their status as much as I do. in fact, most of them are FB friends of mine; that's why Facebook is the best social networking and missed connection tool in my opinion.

Here's a list of what I got for my birthday:

  • a blue Snuggie (blanket with sleeves that was advertised on TV);
  • a digital camcorder (like FLIP, but a little bigger. I'm going to upload a video on YouTube and post it on FB.);
  • 14 movies on 8 DVDs--the complete Blade (vampire action movie with Wesley Snipes) trilogy plus a Blade TV movie on 2 DVDs, the first four Police Academy movies on 2 DVDs (the 80s version of Keystone Cops), the whole Rush Hour trilogy plus Money Talks with Chris Tucker on 2 DVDs, the 80s Christmas classic Gremlins with Phoebe Cates and finally, (I really wanted this for so long)....Say Anything, my favorite John Cusack movie of all time;
  • $20 in cash;
  • $10 Borders gift card;
  • $25 I-Tunes gift card;
  • $25 AMC Theaters gift card;
  • 2 Target gift cards (totalling $50);
  • 4 boxes of candy (including some of my favorites, Swedish Fish & Reese's Pieces);
  • a bottle of wi....I mean pomegranate sparking juice (might use that for New Years Eve);
  • 2 Wally World gift cards (totalling $45);
  • 2 Banana Republic long-sleeve shirts and finally,
  • 3 Best Buy gift cards (totalling $65)

I'm fully loaded right now! I don't expect much for Christmas, then! Thanks for all those who came! I will never forget it! On that note, I will end this post. Post comments and thoughts, please!

Glee & Julia reviews

WARNING: SPOILER ALERTS TO LAST NIGHT'S EPISODE OF GLEE.

Sorry, guys....I've been so busy lately this fall that I haven't got a chance to update this blog., but because of watching the movie Julie & Julia, it gave me purpose to update this.

What a sensational and exciting episode of Glee! and now it's off the air until April 2010 because of American Idol....like one of the songs featured on last night's shows said...."you can't always get what you want." And to quote another song featured, "my life would suck without it." In the episode, the glee club New Directions goes to Sectionals to compete against Eve's glee club and the deaf glee club, but first, Emma Pilsbury took over for Will Schuester after he was suspended for sleeping on one of the mattresses the club earned for shooting the commercial. Then, Rachel told Finn that Puck was actually the father of Quinn's baby....so Will & Puck had a fight, which made Will quit the glee club for now. At the sectionals, the whole club finds out that the other glee clubs "stole" their set list which included "Proud Mary" and "Don't Stop Believin." Later, we find out that it was the villainous Sue Sylvester who leaked the lists and she was suspended by the principal.

Back to the sectionals, the glee club met before their performance and they discussed what songs are they were going to do since the other teams perform theirs. Rachel wanted to perform a song she was preparing when she was four years old, but then Finn came back with a new song and literally saved the day for them, and OMG! the payoff was well worth it--Rachel Berry sang "Don't Rain On My Parade"--better than Barbara Streisand's version, imho! and the whole group sang the Rolling Stone's classic "You Can't Always Get What You Want." I prefer the original, but guess what? They won the sectionals anyway and onto regionals. The happiest moment came at the end when the group sang the Kelly Clarkson hit "My Life Would Suck Without You," Will & Emma finally hooked up! I simply love this show! I hope it will be nominated for a Golden Globe or Emmy next year!'

Before I saw this magnificent episode, I saw the movie Julie & Julia with Meryl Streep, Amy Adams & Chloe from 24. It's basically two true stories based into one movie....big mistake, imho. I liked the Julia part, where Meryl Streep did it again--channeled a real life character into her. She played the famous chef Julia Child. Her story is just basically about her getting into the highest French cooking school, Cordon Bleu, which made her and her husband write one of the most famous cookbooks of all time, Mastering the Art of French Cooking. She should get an Golden Globe & Oscar nomination again for this. Meryl is one of the actresses who knows what's she's doing--along with Julia Roberts & Sandra Bullock. Unlike Julia's story, Julie's story is a little bit boring. Julie Powell (Adams) plays a call center rep who loves to cook. She doesn't like her life, so she decides to cook all 524 recipes of Julia's cookbook in a year with her husband & her best friend 's (played by Chloe) support. I almost fell asleep with this part, but I would recommend this for only Meryl Streep's great performance as Julia Child.

I don't know when the next post will. If something comes up and I really really want to blog about it, I would post it. Until then, Happy Holidays and a great 2010 to everyone who reads this. Please comment on this.

District 9 Movie Review

I just saw the most brutal, intense, bloody, enjoyable and best movie of 2009 so far--District 9. It was produced by Peter Jackson, the director of The Lord Of The Rings trilogy. It has no big name stars, but who cares! It blew me away! The main premise is: What if aliens live among us in the world? A bunch of homeless aliens live in Johannesburg, South Africa in a holding facility called "District 9." They have become a menace to society and humans treat them like animals. Then, a guy named Wikus leads the effort to remove the aliens, or "prawns" as he refers to them to a new camp outside the city. Then, some problems arise...and that's where the movie shines. Full of action, originality, cool special effects and humor, District 9 outshines Transformers 2 and G.I. Joe by a longshot!

Funny People Review

I just saw the best Adam Sandler movie since 50 First Dates and the best Judd Apatow movie ever--Funny People. It's about George Simmons (Adam Sandler) who is a stand-up comic turned movie star, much like the real-life Sandler. He finds out that he has leukemia and he goes back to stand-up after a good movie career. When he decides to do that, he finds Ira Wright (a very funny Seth Rogen) to write his jokes for him. Then he finds out he is a good stand-up comic, too. The movie is like a "bromance" between the two of them. Sandler and Rogen have good chemistry together. Judd Apatow, the director of the 40 Year Old Virgin and Knocked Up has done it again and has created a masterpiece in combining raunchy humor with a good heart-warming story. Leslie Mann, Eric Bana, Jonah Hill and Jason Schwartzmann are good, too. Look for a lot of celebrity cameos in this one. Even Apatow and Mann's real life kids get involved (playing Mann's kids in the movie.) This movie is a must-see from start to finish! I know it's like 2 1/2 hours long, but don't regret it! Can't wait for the DVD!

Thoughts on Last Week

Sorry about the lack of updates on the blog this last week. I've been busy, but since I have more time right now, I'm going to do this:

Thoughts on Big Brother 11--Last week, Laura got the boot and Jesse regained the Head of Household power. Man, I cannot stand him. I've read the spoiler sites already and I know who he will nominate tonight, and judging by his picks, you'll be surprised. (Let me know on FB if you want to find out early.) But I want one of the Offbeats to win--preferably Lydia.

Movies--This week, I saw two good movies; yesterday I saw Public Enemies with Johnny Depp. At first, I didn't want to see it because I don't like gangster, but I realized I had a free movie ticket that expired this coming week and that was the only movie in the theater nearby that is eligible for the free ticket. Johnny Depp did a good job playing John Dillinger in the film. Christian Bale and Marion Coilltard, I didn't care for. It's fast-paced and action packed! The other movie I saw was Coraline. It was made in the style of Nightmare Before Christmas (stop-motion animation), It was the best animated movie I've seen so far this year; better than Pixar's Up. I would recommend it to people 8 and older, but under that, no. There are some frightening parts in the movie that will make people under than age scared.

That's all I have to say right now. If you're reading this on FB, check out all the videos that I posted on FB. I'll try to do another update maybe tomorrow! Later! ;)

Changes

This week has been a week of changes in the internet world for me. Here are the highlights:
  • I will update my FaceBook status more often using Twitter (There's an application that can let you do that through your phone.)
  • I have updated my FB friends list now from 356 on Tuesday to 133 today (Saturday, July 18). I want my FB page to become more personal and limited to the people I talk to at work, who share common interests like Cheesy Songs, family and close personal friends who I see in person; not just people who I have once had a relationship in high school, college and work who RARELY go on FB and I rarely have conversations with in real life.
  • I've now getting some much SPAM and crap in my AOL account; now my main one I will use now is: moviebuffcc@gmail.com; and finally
  • Since most of you didn't look at my old blog at all, I have created a new and improved blog here at this address. I will try to update this more often with 'Twittered" movie reviews, music reviews, reality television reviews like Idol, Dancing With The Stars, Big Brother & America's Got Talent. I added music and also YouTube videos and polls. So, I HOPE you visit my website often and either leave a comment or vote in my polls!

So, now because of these changes, I'm more free and happy and organized in my life. So, starting tomorrow, I will post my Big Brother 11 update so far! Until then, TTYL! ;)

Welcome!

This is like my umpteenth attempt at blogging...so here goes....I got tired of no one seeing my other blog, so now I produced this new one! I'm really going to update this on a frequent basis...so watch out for it!
