Last Night's American Idol Mini Recap

Sorry about the lateness of the blog post. I had to find some time in doing this. I'm doing this during work hours. Last night's season premiere of American Idol was the first one without Paula Abdul as one of the judges. Ellen DeGeneres will take her place starting with the February 9 episode in Hollywood. Guest judges will fill in this spot for all of the audition rounds. It started last night with Victoria Beckham aka Posh Spice of the Spice Girls aka the wife of the most famous soccer players of all time, David Beckham. She did alright as a judge, but nothing too special. I'm going to recap the top best auditions and the top worst auditions on this night of competition:

  • Katie Stevens--remember this name: She sang "At Last" and did it with much gusto as her age (16). She speaks fluent Portguese and has a grandmother who has Alhemizers. Top 24, for sure!
  • Leah Laurenti--She was the final auditioner from last night and sang "Blue Skies." She's so original and a breath of fresh air, but we don't know much background about her. We'll see.
  • Justin Williams--the cancer survivor, I forgot which kind. He sang that Michael Buble song "Feelin' Good, and it was.

Onto the bad auditions:

  • Derek Hilton--Posh says that he is a cross between Chris Brown and The Eagles. He sang "Sorry Seems to Be The Hardest Word" by Elton John. Like the lyric goes..."so sad; it's sad". So sad that he's not going to Hollywood.
  • Lisa Oliveri--The waitress who sang Vision of Love by Mariah Carey. That was a horrible rendition, worse than Bikini Girl's audition of that song last year.
  • Norberto Guerrero--The person who sang "Everytime We Touch" by Cascada, and looked liked Michael Jackson and says he was his inspiration. Nobody can imitate The King of Pop!

Onto Atlanta tonight with Mary J. Blige as the guest judge. I'll post tomorrow!
